Etude sur femmes de poids normal ou bas qui confirme un lien entre faible prise de poids (moins 0.27 kg par semaine) et accouchement prématuré. Mais des différences selon le type racial, et selon les précédents:

Pour les afro-américaines avec antécédent de prématurité uniquement, une prise de poids forte est, comme une prise de poids faible, associée à la prématurité. Cela ne se retrouve pas dans les autres groupes.

Pour les asiatiques avec antécédant de prématurité, une faible prise de poids n'est pas associée à un nouvel accouchement prématuré.
